I wasn’t
aware of this day before and I’m glad that Blogadda gave me a chance to
celebrate Grandparent’s day on 10th September that’s just a day away
from now. It’s true that our parents have grey hair but a golden heart,
however, it’s also true that for us they are more than our friends that our
grand-parents. I’ve been so close to my grandmother as I’ve ever been to my
mother and the reason is that my grandmother understands me a lot better as there
are almost 3 generations that pass from her to me, her own parents and grandparents
upbringing and her raising up her own kids. She passes the experiences and
memories of these 3 generations and this itself makes our relationship a
beautiful memory.
I live far
away from my grandmom and I lose my grandfather when I was 3 years old. I
remember that when I was a child, how she used to feed me with her own hands
and let me watch TV as I was very stubborn when it comes to food. I used to not
eat food from my mom’s hand but prefer eating form my grandmother’s hand as she
used to tell me stories while feeding me as well as add few snacks like chips
and dry fruits to let me enjoy my meal. These are some things that always remind
me of her whenever I have my food today. She is now disabled and hence my aunt
feeds her and looks after all her daily necessities.
We give her
gifts on her birthday and on other days as well but this time since it’s a day
dedicated to grand parents only, I’ve decided to celebrate it a way she would
love rather than like a regular celebration. The things I plan to do are:
I wish to
visit her in person and feed her the same way she used to do. I remember that
she used to jump with joy when mom used to make for her nasi gore and patties.
That’s her favorite dishes which she barely gets to eat these days as my aunt
doesn’t know how to make those dishes. I’m sure she’ll be delighted to eat them
as it has been months she has tasted them.
Along with
these food items, my grandmother loves watching Bollywood movie movies and her
favorite actor is Raj Kapoor and hence I’ll surely carry a DVD of Barsaat and Mera
Naam Joker that she would be watching after almost 25 years as the last time
she watched the movie was with my Grandfather. It’ll bring back those memories.
I’ll also
make her visit the garden and pluck fresh roses for her which she used to do as
a child and she loves pinning them in her hair as well. She will meet her
friends in the garden and I’ll give the other elderly people too roses and a
tight kiss as a gift for being so kind hearted and loving as al grand-parents
are.
These are
some thing I would do to make my grandmother remember this auspicious day and as
she is not fond of luxurious gifts, she would love this simple way of a
celebration. #LoveJatao aur #LovaPao
